Himalayan Pink Gourmet Salt originates from northern Pakistan. It is a natural rock salt that was created when the prehistoric seas evaporated some 250 million years ago – long before the sub continent Indian plate moved north, crashed into Asia, and created the Himalayan Mountain range that we know today.
Himalayan Pink is hand mined from deep inside the foot of the mountains. Rocks the size of footballs are broken into fist sized pieces to determine the quality of the salt. Any rocks with impurities are separated by the diligent workers, ensuring that only the finest rocks are used.
The salt crystals vary in colour from pure white to deep red, and contain valuable nutrients, as well as having a purifying effect. Himalayan Pink is a delicious salt, and is particularly popular as a seasoning for most recipes, as well as being an attractive table salt. It is probably one of the oldest sources of food that one can still eat! So take the ‘Use by Date’ with a pinch of salt.
